Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), which is strongly and specifically expressed in astrocytes and certain other types of astroglia, was targeted in a horizontal thin section of rat cerebellum with rabbit anti-GFAP monoclonal antibodies followed by goat anti-rabbit secondary antibodies conjugated to Alexa Fluor 568. Cell nuclei were subsequently targeted in the specimen with DRAQ5. Images were recorded with a 20x objective using a zoom factor of 1.2 and sequential scanning with the 543-nanometer line from a green helium-neon laser and the 633-nanometer line of a red helium-neon laser. During the processing stage, the Alexa Fluor 568 image channel was pseudocolored blue and the DRAQ5 image channel was pseudocolored red. View a smaller version of this digital image. |
