The single human glioma cell (U-118 MG) presented in the digital image above was resident in an adherent culture stained for F-actin with Alexa Fluor 488 conjugated to phalloidin, and for the mitochondrial network with MitoTracker Red CMXRos. The culture was also treated with DRAQ5, a far-red fluorescent DNA probe. Images were recorded with a 60x oil immersion objective using a zoom factor of 3.0 and sequential scanning with the 488-nanometer spectral line of an argon-ion laser, the 543-nanometer line from a green helium-neon laser, and the 633-nanometer line of a red helium-neon laser. During the processing stage, the MitoTracker Red CMXRos image channel was pseudocolored orange, while the Alexa Fluor 488 image channel was pseudocolored green and the DRAQ5 channel was pseudocolored cyan.
